The Bonaventure Historical Society is a volunteer organization comprised of people who care about history and preservation. Everything we accomplish is attributed to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. We, like the people who visit Bonaventure Cemetery, love the place and work hard to maintain its beauty and significance as a historical landmark.
Katherine Haile has been with the BHS since 2014 when she retired from government service. She routinely “works the desk” staffing the Visitors Center on weekends with our cadre of knowledgeable volunteers.
Kathy originally hails from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and first came to Savannah for training while she was working in Alaska. She enjoyed her visit so much she transferred to Ft Stewart in 2008, our delightful southern winters were no doubt a contributing factor.
Kathy really likes history and after spotting an advert in the Savannah Morning News on volunteer opportunities, she joined BHS and it has been a great fit. She enjoys helping people who come into the Visitors Center for information, whether about the history of the cemetery or to find a specific gravesite using the grave finder. It is always nice to share information about Bonaventure with others and learn from her fellow volunteers.
People visit from all over the world and it is volunteers like Kathy that help make the experience special. So, when you’re in town stop on by the visitor center to say hello.
If you live in the local area and are interested in helping, fill out the form on our volunteer page, we would love to have you join us!
