For those interested in the history of Bonaventure Cemetery we now have a short film available for viewing on our Facebook page.
The film was produced by Daniel Hancock. as part of his Masters in History Degree program at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro GA.
Daniel was inspired to create the film to inform the public about a beautiful and unique place to visit while in Savannah. According to Daniel, “you can tour River Street in about an hour however you should plan to spend more time exploring Bonaventure.” We couldn’t agree more!
The movie tells the story of the history of Bonaventure through historical documents, interviews and a lot of amazing film clips of the cemetery itself. It is engaging and informative and will certainly get a visitor excited about exploring Bonaventure!
There were certainly challenges in creating this movie for Daniel, though most were technical in nature, such as lighting issues and getting the final product produced with the software and hardware he had available.
Daniel enjoyed the filming and his time at Bonaventure especially interacting with visitors. “People would see me with my camera and figured I must know about what to see in Bonaventure.” He also found the history of Bonaventure itself very interesting especially how often it changed hands before becoming a city owned cemetery.
Daniel Hancock completed his BA and MA in History with Georgia Southern University and is currently teaching at the Vidalia (GA) Campus of Southeastern Technical College. While he doesn’t have any plans for another movie soon, we will certainly be excited to follow his career!
